The Hamptons, Long Island American Viticultural Area (AVA) is located entirely within eastern Suffolk County and includes the entire South Fork of Long Island and the townships of Southampton and East Hampton. The AVA, established in 1984, was the first of three created on Long Island. Due to frequent fog and Atlantic Ocean breezes, the climate of The Hamptons is significantly cooler than the neighboring North Fork AVA. As a result, wines crafted from grapes grown on The Hamptons are generally less ripe and less fruit forward than wines made from grapes grown on the North Fork.
