The Lake Erie American Viticultural Area (AVA) borders the southern side of Lake Erie and stretches from just south of Buffalo to Toledo, Ohio. The moderating effect of Lake Erie has resulted in the largest grape growing region outside of California with over 20,000 acres of vineyards. The vast majority of grapes are Concord and are used for making grape juice. In addition, the handful of wineries in this region produce a mix of wines including French-American hybrids such as Seyval Blanc and Vignoles and native varieties such as Catawba, Niagara and Delaware. Scroll down for a comprehensive list of Lake Erie wineries and click “map view” to access the advanced winery search. Whether you would like to visit a winery that provides beautiful vineyard lodging, has food available to complement its wines, or hosts vineyard weddings, we make it easy to find the best Lake Erie wine tasting and touring destinations.
