The Cayuga Lake AVA, established in 1988, is a sub-region of the larger Finger Lakes AVA. Cayuga Lake’s steep shale hillsides prevent frost from settling and extend the AVA’s growing season. As with wineries in the other Finger Lake sub-AVAs, Cayuga Lake wineries are known for producing exceptional Riesling. Nearly all Cayuga Lake wineries provide wine tasting opportunities.
