The Arroyo Grande Valley is a cool climate region located to the east of the city of Arroyo Grande and within four miles of the Pacific Ocean. This sixteen mile valley contains several microclimates. The western portion is cooler due to its increased exposure to the Pacific Ocean while the eastern portion is warmer and at higher altitudes. This temperature variance is illustrated by its two most successful grapes, the cool climate Pinot Noir and the warm climate Zinfandel. The Arroyo Grande Valley has a handful of wineries, nearly all of which are open for tasting.
