The Review
What a beautiful day at Frank family Winery! This picturesque Napa Valley winery, tucked about half way between the Silverado Trail and Route 29, delivers a delightful wine tasting experience. When you begin your walk towards the tasting room, youll immediately notice the rustic country architecture and beautiful landscaping, and youll most likely be greeted by one of the winery dogs, a black lab and a golden retriever. Both are very friendly and instantly give you that at-home and family feel.
Picnic tables greet you as you walk towards the tasting room where you can have lunch while enjoying a bottle of Frank Family Wines. It’s a perfect spot to sit and have lunch on a hot Napa Valley Day with a bottle of Carneros Reserve Chardonnay.
The staff at Frank Family Vineyards are friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. They are also familiar with other wineries in the valley and have an in-depth knowledge of the wines and how to pair them with various food options.
I decided to try the Premium Tasting, and our host generously poured us some bonus wines. There was a sparkling rose and a blanc de blanc sparkling. Being a big fan of bubbles, I was excited to try these wines. The rose was my favorite, although both were nice. After the sparkling wines, we moved on to the 2013 Reserve Carneros Chardonnay. This Chardonnay was fruit driven, with the nose displayed light floral notes with lemon. I also picked up tart, fruit flavors like pear and peach. What a perfect pairing for Thai food or a Brie cheese and dried fruits. Next came the 2014 Carneros Reserve Pinot Noir. I am also a big fan of pinot noir, especially coming from the Carneros Region. This bold pinot offers an earthy and mushroom-like scent and dark fruit on the palate with just a hint of smokiness. My pick of the day was the zinfandel. A 2013 Reserve from Chiles Valley. The Chiles Valley Zinfandel offers ripe, rich flavors of plum and black currant, and the color is idyllic. I would love to pair this with a barbeque or a juicy steak.
Frank Family Winery has something for everyone. Whether you are new to wine, have a trained palate or prefer specific varietals. Frank Family has such a range that you will not be disappointed, and considering the quality of the wines, the prices, $35 to $100, are absolutely reasonable.
