The Review
It is not hard to understand why Ravens Glenn Winery promotes itself as Ohios Crown Jewel of Wineries. The grapevine-lined driveway leads directly to the large parking lot that surrounds the production facility, tasting room and restaurant.
The Place: The winerys covered porch, with white rocking chairs, welcomes visitors as they approach the tasting rooms doors. Inside the winery, the long tasting bar, which can service at least 20 to 25 people, is surrounded by large wine displays and a large shopping area filled with wine-related merchandise. A full-service Italian restaurant, located towards the back of the tasting room, overlooks the Tuscarawas River. If it is a nice day in Ohio, you can enjoy your meal or a bottle of wine outside under the covered seating area, overlooking the river and neighboring golf course.
The Experience: I entered the winery and immediately entered the line to participate in a tasting at the tasting bar. The server was cheerful and informative as she described the wines and told me about the winery. While I was there, I decided to eat at the restaurant and enjoyed a wonderful meal, provided by friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff, that included bread with a tomato basil dipping sauce, house salad and chicken marsala. The service, wines and meal were spectacular and I would highly recommend that you stop in and experience the winery yourself.
The People: Robert and Renee Guilliams, retired health care executives, opened Ravens Glenn Winery in 2004. They initially planted grape vines in 1995 at a vineyard a few minutes from the winery. They subsequently planted another five acres of grapes near the winery. Robert is the winerys viticulturist and cellar{}master and their son, Beau, is the winemaker.
The Wines: Ravens Glenn Winery has three tasting options, each of which is only $2 and includes a souvenir wine glass.
