The Review
A bit of History:  Eric Glomski is a true pioneer in the Arizona Wild West wine industry. The owner of Page Springs Cellars in Cornville has helped numerous other wineries evolve. His passion and desire to make Arizona a renowned wine growing region is evident. Now focusing on Page Springs Cellars, Eric is making award winning wines and helping to put the Arizona wine industry on the map. With his four Jefferson Cup awards, and his latest 90 points awarded in the Wine Spectator for his 2010 Colibri Syrah Clone 174 (just to name a few) he has put Arizona in the limelight of wine aficionados. Mr. Glomski has been making wine for Page Springs Cellars since 2003 and has been instrumental in spearheading legislation to permit Arizona wineries to sell their wines directly to consumers and retailers.
A patch of paradise:  The tasting room at Page Springs Cellars is nice and cozy with private areas to lounge on leather sofas and enjoy a glass of vino. They have tee-shirts, hats and cheese boards made from melted flat wine bottles and lots of wine paraphernalia to buy. I especially noticed a rather unusual boat made from corks and found that it was a recent winner in the annual cork boat race held in Oak Creek adjacent to the winery. If you want to get in on the action drink some wine, save your corks and build a boat! This gorgeous setting with its large deck, grape vine-covered trellises, flowing streams, and beautiful vegetation is one of Arizona’s must see wineries.
Tantalize your taste buds:  The 2011 Vino Del Barrio Blanco is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer. With its crisp grapefruit acidity, it’s a perfect wine for cooling off the palate on a hot afternoon.
Our next wine was the 2012 Fort Bowie Barbera Wild Ferment. Using all natural yeast, this 100% Barbara screams of old world style with black cherry notes and earthy nuances; it’s a delicious well-made wine.
The Super Arizonan 2012 red blend (50% Cab, 25% Sangiovese and 25% Merlot) was an instant favorite. The wine is a Tuscan Bordeaux blend from the Fort Bowie Vineyard in Wilcox and has well-integrated black cherry flavors with spicy notes and soft tannins.
The rich and mouth-filling 2012 El Serrano, Page Springs’ flagship Rhone blend, was a true delight. The mocha from the Mourvedre and the black bramble berry spice from the Syrah were highlighted by the plumy flavors and tannic texture of the Petite Syrah.
Lastly the 2011 Vino de La Familia, a Rhone blend with 70% Petite Syrah is a big, bold tannin bomb. The black cherry and dark ripe berry fruit components are accentuated by a lingering gripping finish. Definitely age-worthy. Dont miss this one if you like big, bold wine!
Wine flights are $10 for 5 tastes with a complementary etched glass. The wines varied in price from $16 to $50 with numerous selections. Page Springs’ kitchen has several offerings that would be perfect to delve into on their roomy deck overlooking Oak Creek. Prices range from $5 to $24 for items such as truffle chips, cheese plates, flatbread pizza, and bistro and brochette plates.
